2019 had a lot of great indie horror movies that went unnoticed. I’ve tried to list the best of them.
1. TIGERS ARE NOT AFRAID
This film sheds light on the horrors of the drug war and will keep you hooked right from the start. All the performances were extraordinary. The fantasy elements have certainly elevated the story and have taken the film to a whole new level. The production design and cinematography amplified the film’s impact. A Masterpiece!!!
2. ONE CUT OF THE DEAD
I bet you can’t make a better micro-budget film than this. Director Shin’ichirô Ueda is a real genius. The writing is very clever, and it is what that makes the film stand out. I don’t want to say anything more as it might spoil your experience. All I can say is, watch this film and get ready to be entertained.
3. THE HOLE IN THE GROUND
I loved the film’s tone. The cinematography and the set design department have succeeded in creating a creepy atmosphere. The character arcs were fledged out, and I genuinely cared for them throughout the film. I thought the relationship between the mother (Seána Kerslake) and the son (James Quinn Markey) were so well written, and it gave a lot of depth to the film. I thoroughly enjoyed watching the movie, and I highly recommend it.
I loved the film’s world-building. The concept was fresh and carefully developed. The film had a lot of suspense and was entertaining to watch. All the performances were phenomenal. In particular, the little girl’s (Lexy Kolker) performance was remarkable. The sci-fi elements of the film were a delight to watch. Don’t miss this one!
The film’s structure was unique, and the director’s way of maintaining the suspense throughout the film deserves appreciation. The soundtrack, paying homage to 80s slasher flicks, was phenomenal. It aided a lot in sustaining the tension and made the film a lot more intriguing. Excellent performances, haunting imagery makes LUZ a must-watch.
